What is the best roach killer product out there?
Amazon lists 226 different roach killer products that have a 4-star customer review rating or higher.
And these products range in price from $2 – $200.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume that you (like me) are looking for a cheaper roach killer solution than having to hire an expensive exterminator to solve your roach problem. I wanted a product that was reasonably priced and very effective.
So I went to Amazon and selected the 5 highest customer rated roach killer products, that were less than $30, and tested them all myself.
Top 5 roach killer products that won’t break the bank:
Advion Cockroach Gel Bait – Price: $26.09
This stuff is amazing. And it should be, as it costs more than the other 4 roach killer products reviewed here. But, you get what you pay for right? Advion Cockroach Gel Bait performed the best out of the 5 products I tried and I have yet to have any re-infestation in the spots where I applied it. The active ingredient in the gel bait (indoxacarb) attacks the roach’s central nervous system, but it is slow acting. This is a good thing. Once the roach ingests the gel, it has time to return to it’s nest before it dies. The poison in it’s system is still active when the other roaches in the nest eat the carcass, which will eventually kill these roaches. And so on and so forth until all your roaches are dead and gone. It is very simple to use as seen in this video:
Eco Defense Organic Home Pest Control Spray – Price: $19.99
All natural and organic, Eco Defense Organic Home Pest Control Spray is a safer alternative to potentially harmful chemical pest control sprays. This product is a good choice if you have pets (or small children) who may be exposed to the spray. This stuff is also a good idea if your roach problem is concentrated in the kitchen, near where food is prepped. Boric Acid Powder is another good all natural alternative to chemical roach killer products. I used my bottle in the kitchen, thinking that if any overspray gets on food or utensils, it wouldn’t be a big deal. All natural right? Now, I wouldn’t use this as a salad dressing spritz at dinner, but I’ve suffered no ill effects from a liberal dusting of my kitchen counters, sink, and table tops. Price wise, I thought it was a bit expensive ($40 a bottle!) but right now, it’s on sale for about $20 on Amazon which is more reasonable. Overall, while it’s not the best roach killer product to use if you already have a really bad infestation, it is a great method to use as a preventative measure.
Combat Source Kill Max Roach Killing Gel – Price: $8.14
This roach killer gel is the cheaper (and less effective) version of Advion Cockroach Gel Bait. However, at only about $9, this is a great choice if you don’t have too severe of an infestation. It is very simple to use: Simply squeeze out a bead of the gel bait in the cracks and crevices that roaches frequent and wait for the magic to happen. The roaches are attracted to the scent of the bait. They come out to eat the bait, retreat to their nest, and then die. Then, the other roaches eat the dead roaches (infected with poison) and they slowly die out themselves. This product does work reasonably well, but it takes much longer (up to 2 weeks) than the Advion stuff. This one is a classic “you get what you pay for” kind of product.
Hot Shot 95789 Mini Ultra Liquid Roach Bait – Price: $9.45
Ah the lazy man’s roach killer. This liquid roach bait is a “set it and forget it” trap to capture roaches without you having to do much at all. You simply place the 6 traps in “high traffic” areas (kitchen, bathroom, and other water sources) and that’s it! Just be sure to check the traps at least once per month to make sure that the bait is still present. This bait worked relatively well, however, once I removed the traps the roaches returned. It is a good idea to keep a pack or two on hand for when you notice the roaches return.
Vendetta Roach Gel Bait Insecticide – Price: $24.75
The closest competitor to Advion in both effectiveness and price. This is essentially the same product and is used in the same way. However, for some unknown reason, Vendetta does not come with a plunger (dispenser) for the bait. Maybe they did this just so they could be $2 cheaper than their competitor. It is a great roach killer product and could be as good (or better) than Advion if it just came with all the tools necessary to dispense the product!
